  History of Our Hunt Club

The Penny Royal Hunt Club was established late in 1991 on the Kentucky-Tennessee border overlooking the Red River southwest of Franklin, Kentucky.
Kennels were built in 1992 and now house 16 1/2 couple of Crossbred and American Foxhounds. The best of the original hounds were given to us by the Millbrook Hunt in Millbrook, New York by Master of Foxhounds, Mr. Farnham Collins and Huntsman Mrs. Betsy Parks. A good old imported English bitch was sent down to us, bred to Rombout Traveler, courtesy of Master of Foxhounds, Mrs. Davis and Huntsman Vincent Tartaglia.  Which produced a fine beginning to our breeding program.  Millbrook also gave us "Shylock" who was bred to the other imported English bitch giving us another high quality litter. We are already entering the third generation of these original hounds to our pack this season. Along the way we received help from many other Huntsmen in the form of good hounds or much needed knowledge.
Penny Royal Hunt country lies south of Franklin, KY, down to Orlinda, Tennessee. On the east side, we are bordered by I-65 and on the west side by Middleton. Fox and coyote still abound and we definitely prefer to "hunt" fox.

The Penny Royal hounds are less aggressive by their handling and their nature and we are proud to say that we have never caused any injury to our wildlife (except for an unfortunate woodchuck).  We are true conservationists and have been striving to protect the wildlife and their habitant. With the population of the red fox on the increase, here our efforts have been rewarded. We are proud to say that we have caused no injury to our horses or riders since the inception of our club.
Our country is made up of small parcels of privately owned farms and the generosity of our neighbors is sincerely appreciated - without their support there would be no fox hunting here.
The pack of foxhounds is owned by Mrs. Sandra Placco, Master of Foxhounds and Huntsmen - who personally sees to their care daily. The Penny Royal Hunt Club shares the expense of feeding and vet work with Mrs. Placco in exchange for the pack providing the fun and excitement.
Mrs. Anne Dottore was gracious enough to accept the task of Joint Master earlier this year. Mrs. Dottore has an excellent working knowledge of animals and her help and insight is appreciated.
Most of our members are "Whips" - Everyone gets into the action at one time or another.  Mrs. Anne Dottore, Mrs. Sue Kerner,  and Mr. Robert Curry  are all called upon often. The preservation of this sport is of utmost importance. In order to do so we feel that we need to create an image of a kinder and gentler sport through careful breeding and control of our foxhounds.
Country from the kennels is well paneled and most of the extensive new country requires little jumping.
Hounds went out 32 times last year. Our season begins in September and ends in April. Guests are always welcome, contact the MFH.
